Landscape Lighting Guide

What color temperature is best for landscape lighting?

For landscape lighting, warm white in the 2700K to 3000K range is best. 2700K is cozy and flatters brick, wood, and warm stone; 3000K is slightly crisper, makes green foliage pop, and suits gray stone and modern homes. Avoid cool 4000K+ light outdoors — it looks harsh and commercial.

What the numbers mean

Color temperature is measured in Kelvin (K). Lower numbers are warmer and more amber; higher numbers are cooler and bluer. Landscapes almost always look best warm, echoing candlelight and incandescent porch lights rather than a parking lot.

Frequently asked

Is 4000K ever right outdoors?

Rarely for homes — it reads cold and commercial. We reserve cooler light for very specific effects, if at all.

Can I mix 2700K and 3000K?

It's best not to mix within the same sightline; a single consistent temperature looks far more polished.
